The Writer's Desk

Writing, publishing & marketing notes from Jamie DeBree & her alter egos

July 1, 2013: THHG, Plotting, & TNL

Writing Session 1: THHG
Author/Genre: JD/Romantic Suspense
Words written:  596
Total Words:  33,313
Time Spent:  30 minutes (after work)

Notes: No breaks today – Monday and all, I guess. When I finally was able to write, I had the *hardest* time actually getting started. Mostly because I knew where this story is sort of heading, but I really wasn’t sure how. Or why. Or what the heck was going to happen next. So I re-read last week’s scene and just let the movie play out in my head from there, and when I thought I found the starting point to the next scene, I started writing.

Part of my problem is that I’ve already decided what needs to be changed in revisions, as far as characters go. So now I’m trying to write going forward as if those revisions have already happened, because why revise anything more than I need to. It’s a bit challenging, considering that some of it is just really digging into personalities I should have done so with a long time ago. But I think it’s starting to work out okay. I guess I won’t really know until I actually go back and do those revisions.

In any case, scene done, and on to the next thing for the week. I have one holiday serial that still needs to be finished before Thursday, so since everything else is due Friday, that comes next.

Plotting Session: TBD
Author/Genre: JD/Paranormal romantic suspense
Time Spent:  1 hour (late night)

Notes: I know, I know. I was supposed to be working on the last holiday serial story. But then I was cruising around the ‘net, minding my own business, trying to psych myself up to write…and it hit me. Straight between the eyes (yes, it hurt a little). This totally amazing idea for a new *paranormal* (if you know me well at all, you’ll know just how odd that is) romantic suspense series. Something that hasn’t been done to death…barely at all, in fact. Something that I actually think I can work with, unlike all the tired vampire/were-things/zombie tropes.

It’s good too. It’s about good vs. evil, necessary sacrifices and lessons learned over long periods of time. It’s about choices, and consequences, and informed decisions.

I so need more time and faster fingers…but the basic bones for this series is all plotted out now. All I have to do is decide where to start and get to work. Right after I finish all the other books I’ve got on the list at the moment…

Writing Session 2: The Naughty List
Author/Genre: TM/Erotic Romance
Words written:  110
Total Words:  10,947
Time Spent:  30 minutes (late, late night)

Notes: Not much, but I’m really tired, and Jodi & Ty are finally starting to hash things out. Tomorrow hopefully we’ll finally get somewhere with that.

Now it’s 12:30am, and I’m going to read and sleep. Mostly sleep.
