The Writer's Desk

Writing, publishing & marketing notes from Jamie DeBree & her alter egos

June 11, 2013: English Breakfast

Writing Session 1: English Breakfast
Author/Genre: JD/rom suspense
Words written:  71
Total Words:  7,197
Time Spent:  15 minutes (break)

Notes: Not quite the blazing start I’d hoped for this morning, but the particular style of writing required for this little section takes more work, or it does for me. Describing things from a hazy, doped up state and still getting all the information needed across is challenging…hopefully it does what I want it to do, which is to bring the reader into Karen’s hazy head. We’ll see…

Writing Session 2: English Breakfast
Author/Genre: JD/rom suspense
Words written:  303
Total Words:  7,500
Time Spent:  15 minutes (break)

Notes: Okay…now we’re getting somewhere. Like hopefully out of the shackles and the whole interrogation room set-up, and on with the stupid story… (yes, sometimes I get as frustrated as my characters when they’re stuck in one spot. It’s boring – move on!).

Writing Session 3: English Breakfast
Author/Genre: JD/rom suspense
Words written:  461
Total Words:  7,961
Time Spent:  30 minutes (after work)

Notes: Out of the frying pan, into the fire. Because that’s how it works, folks. Will Patrick get the message in time? Who’s coming after Karen? I have no idea, but it promises to be exciting writing next week…

I was planning to start this week’s scene for Sprouted tonight, but got a bit side-tracked with tomorrow’s blog post and looking up comic book links (and by extension, comic books). Now it’s 1:10am, and I am headed for bed…Sprouted will just have to wait until tomorrow.
