June 27, 2013: Cutting Back & Beta Reading

Writing Session 1: Cutting Back
Author/Genre: AW/horror
Words written:  291
Total Words:

Time Spent:  30 minutes (afternoon)

Notes: I took the afternoon off from the day job due to a dentist appointment. Just a cleaning, true, but still a great excuse to use up a bit of sick time (I have tons – I rarely take time off). My plan is to finish the beta read and get it sent back, but Melanie was so close to the end of this story installment that I just had to finish it off first. And I’m glad I did. It’s good, I think. Borderline erotic horror, I guess, but not really, since it’s less about sex and more about a woman – a female serial killer – learning what she needs and wants in life. Other than killing people, I mean. Fascinating stuff. Yes, writers are weird…

I spent the rest of my day/evening finishing up a beta read  (for any non-writers lurking, that means I’m reading and making comments about what works for me, what doesn’t, inconsistencies in the plot or time line, and things like that) for a fellow author – one whose work I always enjoy and usually can’t wait to get my hands on. This one was no different, and damnably, she left me salivating for the next book yet again. *sigh*

In any case, it’s nearly 2am, and I’ll have to write up my notes and send the MS back tomorrow. Now I’d better get my butt to bed – it’s back to work tomorrow, and sure to be a busy catch-up day.
