Goals for the Week 3/22 – 3/28/10

Interesting tidbit about me: I *always* want to start my posts and many paragraphs with “So” and always have to go back and edit them out. It frustrates me that my brain wants to do it *every time*.  Now you know.

So. Last week’s blog deadline experiment worked well. I only missed one post on Thursday, in which I was planning to discuss my new sofa that hasn’t shown up yet anyway. I didn’t do any workouts though, mainly because I was incredibly lazy, and because I was having too much fun on Twitter. My fault in both cases, so I’ll need to kick myself into gear on the workouts this week.

As for writing progress, I’m pretty happy with what I got done, even though it didn’t involve many new words. I finished the revised scene outline for HPC, and then worked through the next revision lesson which was how to add more words without adding filler. HPC needs 20k more words to bump it up to “publishable” level, and I spent much of the week deciding how to weave a few new subplots in and enhance the main plot to that end, and am quite pleased with how the revised outline and structure turned out. This week, it’s back to the rewrite, barring another derailment by the revision course.

I wrote about 1500 new words for HOT as well…and I think this week instead of focusing on writing (because it’s not like I can query two novels at once anyway), I’m going to pull back on that, spend the majority of my time on HPC, and revise the scene outline for HOT ala revision course style. If I can do most of that work before the first draft, it should make revisions much easier, I think. Yes, I know I need to know the ending if I’m going to do this. Consider it a personal challenge, to know the ending before writing the draft.

In a side note – I’ve decided the notecard thing just doesn’t work for me. I like just having the scene outlines in one document on my computer, and then I can change/add/rearrange as necessary. Notecards are just more “busy-work” for me…no more.

As for my personal goals – I’m giving up on the menu plans. Not going to happen. The guest post is finished and sent – more on that later. And we already know what happened with the workouts.

– Revise scene outline for HOT
– Chapter 12 of Indelibly Inked


– Three workouts for the week
– Catch up and clear three projects off my desk at work
– Install and start a personal digital journal (offline)

    Idea for working out, I won’t turn on the computer until I’ve done my workout.

    Works pretty well. It’s weird how much time can get ‘lost’ on the computer.

    Menu plans…evil things. I write up a list of dinner options to help me make the shopping list but that’s about it.

    Good plans. What journal software are you using?

    Not that I would give up my pretty journals, but still might check out digital versions. 🙂

    I have got a pretty notecard file, but for editing purpose, which I will post about on the blog. And decided same thing as you to focus on editing draft. 🙂

    I’m trying one called Smart Diary Suite…it seems pretty cool so far. It’s got a lot of gadgets I probably don’t need, but I’m a gadget girl. 😉

    LOL I’m the same way when it comes to wanting to start paragraphs and posts with “so”. 🙂

    Workouts only work for me if I do them first thing in the morning before my body has a chance to realize what it’s doing. So far I’ve been using my extra time in the morning for reading. 😉

    So I’m not the only one then. Whew! 😉

    There you go with the whole morning thing again. I barely have time to get myself ready for work in the morning and hubby out of bed and moving…and I’m not awake enough to read or write anything until at least 9am. Just the thought of a workout that early makes me shiver in fear… LOL
