88 Days

That’s how long it’s been since my last blog post.

Four days later, on March 21st, someone I worked very closely with died, and that set a chain of events in motion that turned my whole world upside down for awhile (as if this whole year hasn’t been crazy enough).

  • I expressed my interest in the Assistant Director role that opened up. I was given an unofficial asst. director title in addition to my normal role and the one I was covering for my co-worker.
  • Our director decided to retire
  • I applied for that job, and didn’t get it for various reasons (a few of them very valid)
  • Athena through her back out pretty badly, requiring a vet visit, some good herbal anti-inflammatories and just over two weeks to heal.
  • The plumbing for our bathroom sink gave out, and the plumber who came out to fix it said we needed nearly $2k to fix it (it’s still broken – hubby’s watching YouTube plumbing videos).
  • My father-in-law died.
  • I got a new co-worker I very much like working with and who is very talented in ways we were previously deficient.
  • I “played” director as Interim for a couple of weeks between the old director leaving and the new coming in.
  • We got a new director who is surprisingly (and thankfully) perfect for the role.
  • I bought a new-to-me couch to replace the one my dogs tore up.
  • I bought a carpet cleaner
  • I am back to my normal single title of Database Coordinator, though still helping the new director while he gets his bearings.

Like many people, I am not fond of change, and I don’t deal well with the unknown. Needless to say, it’s been a very stressful few months, and now that things are starting to stabilize at work I am finally able to breathe a bit (and take vacation days again – like yesterday, which was very low-key).

With that space to breathe, I find my creative brain finally started waking from the coma it was in outside of work (I use it extensively there, too, just in a different way). I’m itching to write things, to crochet things, to “create”. A good sign, methinks.

More to come, soon.

Thanks for reading!
