A Bookish Post

Book haul for October.

Not to state the obvious, but I bought books this week. These aren’t even all of them – my husband has a couple in the bedroom, and the new Dean Kootz is out on the TBR shelf (there’s no more room on the TBR shelf – I have books on the dining room table too). These are just the ones that don’t fit on the dining room table. Or the TBR shelf.

I really need to get that Little Free Library up and running, so I can send a few of the “already read” ones off to new owners.

Our local bookshop has the House of Winslow books on a “free” cart they wheel outside the shop on nice days. It’s taken a lot of restraint not to bring those home, I tell you what. Even though I probably have most of them already. I really should check and see which ones I’m missing…

In any case, I bought the smaller paperbacks at a grocery store I rarely shop at last weekend. Was I there to buy books? No. Could I pass up those adorably-sized paperbacks that would probably be perfect for publishing short stories when I didn’t have a tape measure on me at the moment? Also no. Did I need all of them (I bought four total in that size, and one in that horrific tall/skinny format literally no one likes)? Also no. But they looked good, and it’s been forever since I indulged in a Gena Showalter, so….

All That’s Left by Lisa Guenther is a finalist in the High Plains Book Awards, Marc Beaudin is a local poet (we have a lot of writers in Montana, and a lot of them are poets), and the rest were on the horror table at the local bookstore where the writing group meets (yes, they carry my books as well – see link below). It’s October, not that I wouldn’t read horror any other month as well.

One book I bought strictly for the cover, which made me laugh. I’m sure you can guess which one, if you look at the photo for a few seconds.

Also, a pox on people who put stickers on books. Even sale stickers. Foe!

Anyways, it was a rather bookish week last week, and yes, I got some writing done. I started a meet cute between two awkward youngsters. Which is adorably romantic, except I don’t think they can ever be together, which kind of sucks. We’ll see.

Now I have to work on revisions to the Halloween story that may or may not be out in time, and then back to the book I’m currently reading, which is Horn Dogs, by Kevin J. Anderson, and every bit as fun as that sounds in a completely different way than you’re thinking.

What are you reading and/or writing this week?
